Emerging Technology #2: Picnik

Have you ever wanted to enhance the color of the leaves or change part of your picture black and white but leaving some color? The technology I will be exploring in today’s blog post is the wonderful website called Picnik. Picnik is a website used for photo enhancing and editing.

You can do many things with Picnik even if you don’t buy the full version. You can change the color, add clip art, frames, and words, touch up someone in the photo and many more features. What the program does is change the photo in any way you select. If you want to add your name to the photo just click “Create” then “Text” and select from varies types of font and add them to the photo. During many holidays Picnik allows special effects i.e. snow for winter for font that goes along with the season.

Attached to this blog are a few photos I have edited with Picnik. I learned to use this technology all on my own. I would just apply an effect and if I didn’t like it I would not save it to edit the image. The website is very user-friendly and tells you exactly what effects are free.
If you plan on using Picnik I would recommend taking time to wonder through each of the effects. They all benefit photos in some ways and help make them look even better than before. You can access the site at http://www.picnik.com/.

The Next Generation

Today at 12:45 PM my cousin Brandon and his wife Leah welcomed their second son Ryder Eli into the world. Ryder is only 10 months younger than his older brother Carsyn Lucas. Both of these little boys will enter a world of Education much different than the one myself and their parents entered.

I plan to help make the world of education they do enter, one of the best they can have. I want them to like going to school and not have to face some of the things other students have faced. I want their generation to be able to feel like they can do anything and not be put down.

Thier generation is the future. As future educators we should always be working to improve thier world and helping pursue any dreams they may have.

This blog wasn't part of an assignment. It was just something I wanted to share. :)

I hope this works :) Emerging Technology #1: Podcasting

For my first emerging technology we were asked to explore the world of podcasting. A Podcast is an audio file about anything you want it to be about. Podcasting allows anyone with a voice recorder to record anything they want and then post it to the web. It allows people to  hear you instead of read what you have to say. I believe it makes things feel a little more personal.
In my podcast below I gave some useful tips on how podcasting is useful in the classroom. One personal way I can see it begin useful in the real world is for people who is blind. I have two aunts who have been blind since childhood. They both have a system on their computer that read websites, papers ect. to them but with a podcast they could get the real effect out of what the author/podcaster is saying and it doesn't sound like a robot.
I've used similar recording devices when I was in high school in the Television Broadcasting class, so audacity wasn't hard to use. I believe the program is very user-friendly and easy to work.
Here is the link to my very own, very first podcast: https://oncourse.iu.edu/access/content/user/shrfleen/Shauna_Podcast_Module4.mp3. The subject of my podcast is about using podcast in the classroom and another technology called Skype. I hope you enjoy. If you have any questions on how to use audacity feel free to post a comment on my blog and I'll get back to you.
